Match Up! v1.3
This is a game of skill and of course, a little luck.
the object is to clear the entire board of all shapes.
But how you clear the board makes all the difference
in the world. You see, the more shapes you can get off
the board in a single move, the higher your score!

Download more shapes
To clear shapes, you need to find two or more that match
and are touching side to side, or one above the other.
Then you simply click on the group of shapes and they will
be removed.
Now I know that sounds simple enough, but the trick is in
racking up the high scores we all love to see. The more
shapes you take off the board in one click the better your
score as shown here...

I am sure you can see the importance of having large
groups of shapes removed at one time.
Another thing to note. If you do manage to clear the
entire game board, your entire score is automatically
doubled as a bonus!
When shapes are removed, the remaining shapes from above
will drop down to fill the gaps. If an entire column is
removed, all the shapes to the right will move left to
fill the empty column.
The game is over when there are no more shapes that can
be removed from the board. This of course includes cases
where the entire board is cleared. At this point you will
have the option of saving your high score to the web for
others to see. Click Here
if you would like to see the current scores of other players.
At the bottom of the game window you will find your control/score bar.
The first button lets you reset the game. The next field is marked
SHAPES and controls how many different shapes are to be used. This is
basically the level selector. You can play any level from 3-10. Lower
number of shapes means simpler to play. Changing your level will
restart the game. Right next to the SHAPES drop down you will find a
counter field showing the number of shapes you need to remove from
the board in order to clear it. On the low levels, all shapes are visible
when the game starts. On higher levels some shapes are hidden off the
top of the window when the game starts.
The next three sections relate to scores. The first is marked PLAYED
and tells you how many points you got for your last play. Next is your
current score. And finally BEST marks the best score that has been
reached on your computer. If you want to see the best scores of other
players, you need to visit our
score page on this site.
The last button is marked RULES and gives you the basics of playing
the game in case you forget. The information is not as detailed as
this page but is enough to get you up and playing.
There are two special shapes. The joker is a wild shape. It acts like
any other shape it is next to. The higher game level you are playing,
the more wild/joker shapes you are given at the start of the game. The
bomb doesn't give you any points but can be very useful. When used it
removes all of the shapes on the board that match the shape that was
randomly selected at the start of the game. The shape that will be
removed will be displayed when you move your mouse over the bomb. Used
properly, this can be a very important shape.
That prety much covers all there is to this game. It is
very simple in concept yet very tough to master the higher
levels. It can offer hours of entertainment for all ages.
And best of all, this game is totally FREE!
Here is whats New
| v1.3 |
Well, after tinkering with the new shapes idea in v1.2 (yeah it was
only a few days ago I released that version) I decided that making the
shape packs was too much work for me and explaining it to you would
be crazy. So I added a shapes editor screen to the program. Now
you can create your own shapes sets and share them with others.
If you have a nice set you want us to put online, visit the
download for instructions on getting
the shapes to us.
Rewrote a few of the drawing routines to make them faster. It
doesn't have much effect on faster systems, but on the slower
machines (like the 133 my kids have) you can see a large improvement.
|
| v1.2 |
You now have control over the shapes you play with! Yep you got it!
You can select from different sets of shapes when playing. You can
even change shapes in the middle of the game without having to start
over! You can also download more shapes to add
to your collection.
Now you can resize your screen! This is important when using some
shape sets. Most of the shapes are designed to work in the default
32x32 size. But some really look best in larger sizes. You can
quickly resize your window and the shapes will fill the screen
as much as posible.
|
| v1.1 |
We also fixed a little bug. In versions 1.0 and 1.1 you could set
the sound to be played when the shapes moved. Only problem was it
never worked. Now it does. By default no sound is played when the
shapes move on the screen but you can pick any sound you like and
it will work now.
