Twist Up! v1.0

This is a game of skill and of course, a little luck. the object is to clear the entire board of all shapes. But how you clear the board makes all the difference in the world. You see, the more shapes you can get off the board in a single move, the higher your score!

To clear shapes, you need select one shape and swap it with another one space away. It sounds easy enough but you can only make the swap if you are trading places with an existing shape (not a blank space) and the swap must result in two shapes of the same type being next to each other.

Now I know that sounds simple enough, but the trick is in racking up the high scores we all love to see. The more shapes you take off the board in one click the better your score as shown here...

After you make a swap, all of the shapes that can be removed (matching shapes in groups of 2 or more) are marked for removal. If you have only 2 shapes, you get 3 points. That is 1 for the shape you moved and 2 for the shape you did not move.

I know, 3 points big deal, you want to know how to get more points! That comes from removing more shapes in a single move. You always get 1 point for the first shape, 2 for the second, 3 for the third and so on. The value for each shape is added together to make your total score for that one move.

ShapesScoreHow it adds up
231 + 2
361 + 2 + 3
4101 + 2 + 3 + 4
5151 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5
And So On...

Now you say it is hard to take out 5 or more shapes in one move. Well, it isn't all that hard on the lower levels but on the higher levels it can be really tough. But that isn't the only way you get points. No!

When the shapes are removed from the screen, the shapes above will fall and fill in the void. When this happens, you get more points. The values start over at 1 for the first shape and 2 for the second and so on as shown above. This is called a combo play. The first combo you get only the points for the shapes that are removed. But when there are multiple combos on one play you get bonus points. On the 2nd combo you earn 5 bonus points, and 10 on the second and 15 on the 3rd and so on. There is no limit to the increases you can get from combo plays.

If you are really good (or really lucky) you can remove many shapes and get a really high score. Your total points for each play are shown at the bottom of the window next to the total running score.

I am sure you can see the importance of having large groups of shapes removed at one time. Another thing to note. If you do manage to clear the entire game board, your entire score is automatically doubled as a bonus!

When shapes are removed, the remaining shapes from above will drop down to fill the gaps. If an entire column is removed, all the shapes to the right will move left to fill the empty column.

The game is over when there are no more shapes that can be removed from the board. This of course includes cases where the entire board is cleared. At this point you will have the option of saving your high score to the web for others to see. Click Here if you would like to see the current scores of other players.

At the bottom of the game window you will find your control/score bar. The first button lets you reset the game. The next field is marked SHAPES and controls how many different shapes are to be used. This is basically the level selector. You can play any level from 5-10. Lower number of shapes means simpler to play. Changing your level will restart the game. Right next to the SHAPES drop down you will find a counter field showing the number of shapes you need to remove from the board in order to clear it. On level 5, all shapes are visible when the game starts. On higher levels some shapes are hidden off the top of the window when the game starts.

The next three sections relate to scores. The first is marked PLAYED and tells you how many points you got for your last play. Next is your current score. And finally BEST marks the best score that has been reached on your computer. If you want to see the best scores of other players, you need to visit our score page on this site.

The last button is marked RULES and gives you the basics of playing the game in case you forget. The information is not as detailed as this page but is enough to get you up and playing.

That prety much covers all there is to this game. It is very simple in concept yet very tough to master the higher levels. It can offer hours of entertainment for all ages. And best of all, this game is totally FREE!
