Twist Up! v1.0
This is a game of skill and of course, a little luck.
the object is to clear the entire board of all shapes.
But how you clear the board makes all the difference
in the world. You see, the more shapes you can get off
the board in a single move, the higher your score!
To clear shapes, you need select one shape and swap it
with another one space away. It sounds easy enough but you
can only make the swap if you are trading places with an
existing shape (not a blank space) and the swap must result
in two shapes of the same type being next to each other.
Now I know that sounds simple enough, but the trick is in
racking up the high scores we all love to see. The more
shapes you take off the board in one click the better your
score as shown here...

After you make a swap, all of the shapes that can be removed
(matching shapes in groups of 2 or more) are marked for removal.
If you have only 2 shapes, you get 3 points. That is 1 for the
shape you moved and 2 for the shape you did not move.
I know, 3 points big deal, you want to know how to get more points!
That comes from removing more shapes in a single move. You always
get 1 point for the first shape, 2 for the second, 3 for the third
and so on. The value for each shape is added together to make your
total score for that one move.

Now you say it is hard to take out 5 or more shapes in one move. Well,
it isn't all that hard on the lower levels but on the higher levels it can
be really tough. But that isn't the only way you get points. No!
When the shapes are removed from the screen, the shapes above will
fall and fill in the void. When this happens, you get more points.
The values start over at 1 for the first shape and 2 for the second
and so on as shown above. This is called a combo play. The first
combo you get only the points for the shapes that are removed. But
when there are multiple combos on one play you get bonus points.
On the 2nd combo you earn 5 bonus points, and 10 on the second and
15 on the 3rd and so on. There is no limit to the increases you
can get from combo plays.
If you are really good (or really lucky) you can remove many shapes
and get a really high score. Your total points for each play are
shown at the bottom of the window next to the total running score.

I am sure you can see the importance of having large
groups of shapes removed at one time.
Another thing to note. If you do manage to clear the
entire game board, your entire score is automatically
doubled as a bonus!
When shapes are removed, the remaining shapes from above
will drop down to fill the gaps. If an entire column is
removed, all the shapes to the right will move left to
fill the empty column.
The game is over when there are no more shapes that can
be removed from the board. This of course includes cases
where the entire board is cleared. At this point you will
have the option of saving your high score to the web for
others to see. Click Here

At the bottom of the game window you will find your control/score bar.
The first button lets you reset the game. The next field is marked
SHAPES and controls how many different shapes are to be used. This is
basically the level selector. You can play any level from 5-10. Lower
number of shapes means simpler to play. Changing your level will
restart the game. Right next to the SHAPES drop down you will find a
counter field showing the number of shapes you need to remove from
the board in order to clear it. On level 5, all shapes are visible
when the game starts. On higher levels some shapes are hidden off the
top of the window when the game starts.
The next three sections relate to scores. The first is marked PLAYED
and tells you how many points you got for your last play. Next is your
current score. And finally BEST marks the best score that has been
reached on your computer. If you want to see the best scores of other
players, you need to visit our
score page on this site.
The last button is marked RULES and gives you the basics of playing
the game in case you forget. The information is not as detailed as
this page but is enough to get you up and playing.
That prety much covers all there is to this game. It is
very simple in concept yet very tough to master the higher
levels. It can offer hours of entertainment for all ages.
